Forty-nine-year-old veteran runner Sefli Ahar continued his winning journey by coming in first place in the recent men’s veteran category of the 42-kilometre (km) Borneo Marathon 2023 after crossing the finishing line with an impressive time of two hours and 46 minutes 55 seconds, six minutes shy of the national record.
In light of his achievement, Skechers Brunei handed a BND1,000 incentive to Sefli Ahar yesterday.
Sefli Ahar said he has been an ambassador for Skechers Brunei for 12 years and thanked them for their continuous support.
During the Borneo Marathon 2023, he said, “I didn’t expect to come in first place. My expectation was to finish within the podium position. If I would have known that I could have break the national record, I would have run faster. My nearest rival was around 20 minutes behind.”
He added, “I just turn 49. The win was a memorable birthday gift.”
Sefli has been training twice daily and hopes to compete in the upcoming 100-kilometre Ultra Marathon in Perak, Malaysia.
